What Allergy Blood Tests Can Help Identify

What Your Results Can and Can’t Tell You

What About Food IgG Tests?
Food IgG tests are different from specific IgE allergy tests and should not be considered interchangeable.
While specific IgE testing is an established part of investigating suspected IgE-mediated allergies, major international allergy organisations do not recommend food-specific IgG testing as a method for diagnosing food allergy or food intolerance. Current evidence suggests that food IgG antibodies often reflect normal exposure to foods rather than an adverse immune reaction.
For this reason, food IgG results should not be used on their own to diagnose allergies or to eliminate foods from the diet. If IgG testing is performed, results should be interpreted cautiously and always alongside symptoms, dietary history, and appropriate clinical advice.
