COLOTECT is a non-invasive stool DNA screening test for molecular signals associated with colorectal cancer and precancerous lesions.
DNA is extracted from a stool sample collected using the special kit. The test uses real-time PCR to analyse abnormal DNA methylation in three genes associated with colorectal cancer:
- ADHFE1
- PPP2R5C
- SDC2
The report provides a qualitative positive or negative result. A negative result indicates a lower probability of colorectal cancer or an advanced adenoma but does not completely exclude either condition. A positive result requires medical evaluation and should normally be followed by colonoscopy for confirmation.
COLOTECT is a screening test and cannot diagnose colorectal cancer by itself. Results should be interpreted alongside symptoms, medical history and professional medical advice. Anyone experiencing colorectal symptoms should consult a doctor even if the result is negative.
