The Respiratory Pathogen Panel 33 (RP33) uses multiplex real-time RT-PCR to detect genetic material from a broad range of viral and bacterial respiratory pathogens in a single respiratory specimen.
The panel covers:
Viral pathogens
- Influenza A virus
- Influenza A (H1N1) pdm09 virus
- Influenza A (H3N2) virus
- Influenza B virus
- Influenza C virus
- Human coronavirus (OC43, NL63, 229E and HKU1)
- Human parainfluenza viruses 1–4
- Human metapneumovirus A/B
- Respiratory syncytial virus A/B
- Human adenovirus
- Enterovirus
- Human rhinovirus
- Human bocavirus
- Human parechovirus
Bacterial pathogens
- Mycoplasma pneumoniae
- Chlamydophila pneumoniae
- Streptococcus pneumoniae
- Haemophilus influenzae
- Staphylococcus aureus
- Klebsiella pneumoniae
- Legionella pneumophila
- Moraxella catarrhalis
- Salmonella species
- Bordetella species
- Streptococcus pyogenes
- Streptococcus agalactiae
- Acinetobacter baumannii
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa
It may help identify a possible cause of upper or lower respiratory infection when different pathogens can produce similar symptoms. Samples may be collected using a throat, nasopharyngeal or nasal swab.
Detection indicates that genetic material from a pathogen was found but does not, by itself, confirm that it is causing the current illness. Results should be interpreted alongside symptoms and clinical findings. This panel does not include SARS-CoV-2.
