The Bone Health Panel measures seven biomarkers involved in bone formation, bone breakdown, mineralisation and the hormonal regulation of calcium and phosphate.
What is this package used for?
Used to assess bone metabolism and turnover and investigate nutritional, mineral and hormonal factors that may affect bone health. It may support the evaluation and monitoring of conditions associated with abnormal bone turnover alongside clinical assessment and bone-density testing.
What does the package measure?
- Calcium: A mineral essential for bone structure and mineralisation.
- P1NP: A marker produced during type I collagen formation that reflects new bone formation.
- Inorganic Phosphate: A mineral involved in forming and maintaining bone tissue.
- Osteocalcin: A protein produced by osteoblasts that provides information about bone formation and turnover.
- Total Vitamin D: Supports calcium absorption and normal bone mineralisation.
- Beta-CrossLaps (β-CTX): A marker of bone resorption that reflects the breakdown of bone tissue.
- Parathyroid Hormone (PTH): Helps regulate calcium and phosphate levels and influences bone turnover.
Important information
This blood panel does not directly measure bone density. Results should be interpreted alongside medical history, clinical findings and bone-density imaging when appropriate.
